The Spanish Present Progressive Tense is used to talk about something that is happening
now.

The Present Progressive is generally formed using the verb “estar”,  plus a Present Participle

Present Progressive Formula:

Present Progressive – Examples

Estoy hablando con mi madre. –  I am speaking to my mother.
Los niños estánc omiendo en el patio. – The children are eating in the yard.
El abuelo está durmiendo en la sala.-  Grandpa is sleeping in the living room.
Marco está escribiendo un ensayo para su clase de Español.-  Marco is writing an essay for his Spanish class.
Estamos cocinando la cena.-  We are cooking dinner.

Ella está leyendo– She is reading         (to read – leer)

Él no está hablando– He is not speaking          (to speak – hablar or conversar)

Mi tío está escribiendo –  My uncle is writing             (to write – escribir)

¿Está él hablando?  – Is he speaking?      (to speak – hablar  or conversar)

Su perro está comiendo –   Her dog is eating     (to eat – comer)

¿Por qué están durmiendo los niños? – Why are the kids sleeping?        (to sleep – dormir)

Bella está tocando la guitarra y Andrewla está   escuchando. – Bella is playing the guitar and Andrew is listening to her. (to play – jugar or tocar),  (to listen – escuchar or  oír),  (to touch – tocar)
